The 10 Commandments of GLC

1. Don’t walk through an area you are about to hunt. This is, by far, one of the most important things I have learned throughout my years of hunting. I remember being in high school and trying to figure out what this hunting thing was all about and walking through a piece of public land…

Habitat Management

Throughout almost all of human existence, huntable land and huntable wildlife have preceded the hunter. They caused the hunter. But in the future this must be reversed. It is the hunter who must cause huntable land and wildlife…” John Madison One of my favorite parts about deer hunting and conservation is that we can play…

The Foundations of a Healthy Deer Herd

“Synergy” is defined as the cooperation of two or more parts to create a substance greater than the sum of their separate parts. This is how the Foundations of a Healthy Deer herd operate. You can increase food, water, cover, and safety separately and probably have a good outcome on your land. However, when you…

Maximize Your Small Parcel

I do not believe that the *really* good deer hunting should be exclusively for the people who own massive pieces of land. In fact, I think many (most) landowners who own smaller pieces of land are vastly underestimating the potential of their property. It is true that most deer have a home range of several square miles. However, most deer (especially mature bucks) may only travel a few hundred yards during the daylight. We operate with two goals to reach the full potential of your property: to provide habitat where that daylight movement can take place and to provide a hunting strategy to hunt your land effectively. So whether you are hunting 5 acres or 200 acres, please reach out to see if we can help you make some memories!

How We Do It

Where?

GLC will consult primarily in South Central Kentucky.

When?

GLC will schedule consultations from January to August.

Why?

GLC believes that you do not need hundreds or thousands of acres to enjoy quality hunting. You would be surprised at the potential of your parcel.

Reasons NOT to use GLC…

“There isn’t anything to improve.”

Integrity seems to be a lost virtue in business today. The pursuit of ‘The Almighty Dollar’ often leads people into unethical business decisions. One characteristic that I want GLC to be known for is its character and integrity. If I believe that there are no improvements to be made, I will tell you. To be honest with you, though, it is extremely hard to find a parcel that is maximizing every acre of ground. I think the statement “There isn’t anything I can improve” is often used out of laziness or lack of knowledge about deer or habitat. I don’t say that to step on toes, but simply to communicate that there are always improvements to be made.

“I’m already killing good deer.”

This should be all the more reason to use GLC. Imagine only achieving the bare minimum of your property’s potential and being successful with the bare minimum. How much more successful could you be with quality habitat and hunting improvements?

“My land isn’t big enough for that kind of service.”

Whoever started the myth that you have to have huge tracts of land to be a successful deer hunter was wrong. There are giant deer killed all over the country on just a few acres every year. In fact, I have a friend that has hunted the same 5-acre piece of dirt out of the same stand year after year and has shot two nice bucks in the last two years. Deer need food, water, cover, and safety in order to thrive. What makes the food, water, cover, and safety of a 50-acre parcel intrinsically better than the food, water, cover, and safety of a 5-acre parcel?
